I met Marilyn during my Internship after graduate school. I found her to be one of the most effective therapists I encountered and learned from her that you “cannot take a client where you have not gone.” Marilyn’s effectiveness was related to her willingness to do her own work; something she required of her students.  I learned more about myself in my training with Marilyn than I had in any previous therapy, and that has changed everything professionally.  The Murray Method has given me a structure to invite clients into their own healing journey - one that I have experienced and have practiced for the past 16 years.  It’s a method that works.

Although I attended the Murray Method Level I training with the desire to learn how to help others, I came away with a deeper understanding regarding working through my own traumas and the joy of knowing who I was created to be.  I learned that a balanced life – emotionally, spiritually, intellectually and physically - was possible for me.  This is a workshop that every person would benefit from attending – especially therapists.  We need to turn inward and heal ourselves before helping others with healing in their lives.

I have utilized the Murray Method consistently since 1994.  Marilyn's treatment was instrumental in transforming my life from the ravages of childhood trauma including enslavement to multiple addictions, chronic self-hatred, relational impoverishment, and professional uncertainty. Her nurturing and gentle spirit, coupled with utilization of the Murray Method, gave birth to an internal renaissance which has sustained itself like a time-release capsule for over 23 years. To date I am addiction-free, am filled with self-love/nurture/respect and my childhood trauma is no longer the defining feature of my life. Instead, the Murray Method had has enabled me to embrace, celebrate and unleash the person God ordained me to be. Professionally I have employed the Murray Method for 23 years. My personal transformation experience utilizing the Murray Method has been replicated hundreds of times in the clients I have been able to serve. No matter the type of trauma, intensity of dysfunction/addiction, or depth of brokenness and life-weariness experienced, Marilyn's techniques have consistently and reliably transformed and restored trauma survivors.  Her method is universally applicable having proven to be effective in the healing of clients from all walks of life and cultures.  The Murray Method has been successfully employed in business applications as well - particularly for those in entrepreneurial, R&D or leadership positions where creativity, imagination and resourcefulness are crucial to success.

The Murray Method transformed my life.  I was experiencing Adult-Onset PTSD and was unable to function in any part of my life until I worked with Marilyn in intensive therapy almost 26 years ago.  Her Murray Method halted the slide - it cleaned out the wounds and helped me find my original self in a way that has evolved into a sweet, productive and rewarding life.   As a result I returned to school and received my graduate degree in Marilyn’s Treatment of Trauma, Abuse and Deprivation program at Ottawa University. I have worked in the field of psychology for 18 years and was trained in the Murray Method by Marilyn Murray in 1999-2001. The Method provides a vehicle to assist the client in dealing with the deep feelings and physiological reactions related to trauma, abuse, and deprivation. As part of the process, I also was able to delve deeply into my own experiences and to process them in a way that has brought about my own healing. Marilyn is my teacher, my healer, and my friend.

I have used the Murray Method for approximately 18 years.  It initially impacted me personally when I took the university course as a participant learner; there my personal work extended to a deeper level of healing by identifying the history of my pain, how it had impacted me, what my triggers were, while giving me a "vision" of who I really am. I still have my vision of my Healthy Balanced Person who is still becoming who she already is, free to live life to the fullest. It has impacted my professional life foundationally. I have incorporated the Murray Method for clients with numerous issues to understand the root of their emotional and behavioral difficulties. It provides an initial "intensive" entrance and a continuing journey into their work to resolve the life defeating problems that keep them enslaved. There has always been an "eye opening" experience for clients when I have taught this Method, even for a group of pastor’s wives in Accra, Ghana West Africa.   I thank Marilyn for her tireless work to train and help the people she has been so committed to over the years. Her continued energy and faithfulness for what God has shown her through the Murray Method has provided healing for the most difficult of prisoners, whether behind bars or an iron curtain, for traumatized people, or for those who have become a disciple of her knowledge.  I believe God sent her for "a time such as this".

I began using the Murray Method personally in 1992 when I participated in several of Marilyn Murray’s seminars. They were like no other workshops I had ever attended.  Instead of having to force myself to remember the concepts, I discovered a few months later that they had become a part of me and had taken root.  My perspective of myself and others had fundamentally changed deep inside of me. I continued to train professionally with Marilyn and began sharing what I had learned in small therapeutic counseling groups. I have had the privilege of working with over 1,000 women and men in small groups and retreat seminars.  Participants have reported that their marriages have been saved and relationships with family and friends have been restored.  Most significantly participants say they feel more at peace, feel freed to be their true selves and are more fulfilled.   Participants commented that their professional lives improved because they were able to contribute and grow with more confidence.    I feel blessed to have learned from Marilyn; and I feel safe in saying to others who study this Method that we are brothers and sisters on an incredible journey together.

I became associated with Marilyn in 1991 through the National Association for Christian Recovery.  At that time, she expressed her heart for providing recovery resources for wounded clergy and she has continued to be a supportive resource in our unique work with pastors and missionaries internationally. Marilyn has greatly impacted my life and my relationships as she captured truth in the bottle of her own trauma and transferred it to so many of us.  Her work creates amazing, life giving transformations and now this work is teaching us to do likewise.  Those of us in the wake of her influence are marked by her teaching, inspired by her life and irreversibly touched in our inner lives in ways we would never have been touched had God not used her as He has.   I now have the opportunity to counsel deeply hurting men and women worldwide and all that I touch have the heart and teaching of Marilyn and the Murray Method all over them even though they have never met or heard of her.

As a victim of a terrorist attack as a child, I felt as though I had waited all my life for someone like Marilyn to come and help me work through this horrific trauma.  When I finally had the opportunity to attend Marilyn’s classes, I gained a long-desired healing at a very deep level.  As I worked on my own issues, I also acquired many new instruments which I now regularly use with great effectiveness with my clients and students.

Moscow State University of Psychology and Education expresses its deep gratitude to Professor Marilyn Murray for the series of trainings she has conducted for our university in Russia and for her altruistic and highly professional help.  The knowledge and skills that our psychologists acquired during these trainings is being successfully used in their personal lives as well as in their professional work with adults, children and families
